I apologize for not posting in a very long time. We've had a death in the family and it's been difficult to get back in the groove of stamping. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and a great start to the new year!
Let it Snow
Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the inks look so delightful
So while the winter is cold and damp
Let us stamp! Let us stamp! Let us stamp!
It doesn't take much convincing
And I've brought a tool for crimping
Choose some paper, turn up the lamp
Let us stamp! Let us stamp! Let us stamp!
When we carefully press just right
How we smile as the image unfolds
Add some color, so bold, so bright
The result is a sight to behold.
Our projects are quickly drying
And there's new techniques for trying
So until we get finger cramps
Let us stamp! Let us stamp! Let us stamp!
Happy Holidays!!

I know Halloween isn't for everyone, but it is one of my favorite holidays. I love decorating our house, carving pumpkins and even dressing up. And I enjoy making my daughter's costumes (when she used to let me, that is!). Halloween parties, bobbing for apples (does anyone still do that?), hot apple cider (yum!) and of course – chocolate! What's not to like?
I mentioned a makeover and since being green is so in right now – recycle, remake, reuse – so this project is perfect because it is a makeover of an older project I haven't done in quite some time.
Even if you're not into Halloween, you could make up these projects using any theme, not just Halloween, so let's get started!
To get the party rolling, you first need an invitation, right? Check out this unusual invitation that could also double as a card. It's been awhile, but I used to demonstrate turning an envelope into a gift card holder (or other small trinket) by sealing the envelope, cutting off one short end and then crimping the remainder piece so it will fit inside the part you cut off. Sound familiar? I've noticed that these envelope/packages are making a comeback, so I thought I would play around with it and came up with these projects.
I wanted to use the Top Note die (because I can) and since it works so well as a bag topper, I figured it would work for this makeover project too. I measured the width and decided that a piece 3.75" wide would fit inside the top note snugly. So I cut a piece of 6x9" Night & Day DSP (don't you just love this paper – it's gorgeous!) and then scored it sort of as if I was making an envelope. I scored at 3.75" and 7.5" parallel to the short end (6"), and then turned the paper 90 degrees and scored again at 1" (parallel to the long 9" edge). Here's a template for reference (not sure about you, but I am a very visual person – remember you can click on the picture to bring up a larger view):
You will cut away the 2 bottom corners, leaving a small flap to form the bottom of the envelope (see template). Fold the left side (3.75" side) over, and then fold the smaller right edge (1.5") over the larger side and adhere. Use your corner rounder on the corners of the bottom flap before folding it up and attaching it to the envelope. Now you have a little pouch that you can fill with whatever you like. Just one more punch – punch half a circle using the 1 1/4" circle punch from the front of the pouch to make it easier to grab whatever you put inside (see picture above). Now run your pouch through the paper crimper a couple of times to give it that corrugated look. Fun!
For the insert, I cut a piece of Green Galore card stock 3.5" x 4.75" and the Whisper White piece at 3.25" x 4.5". I stamped and watercolored the pumpkin from Autumn Harvest using my Stampin' Up! markers and an Aqua Painter. Punch a piece of the Night & Day DSP with the Round Tab Punch and attach to the top center of your insert.
For the topper, die cut a Top Note shape from Only Orange card stock. Fold it in half along the long edge (so it is wider than it is tall). Stamp as desired, then attach a couple of mini brads along the outside edge and then tie on a decorative ribbon (this is really decoration, it doesn't really hold anything together). Slide the insert into the pouch, then slide the topper over everything. Voila! How fun it that?
Well, let's make it even more fun! I made up a few of these card/invitations and had some 3"x12" DSP leftover, so I just had to make up one of these pouches in miniature:
Isn't it adorable?! I filled this one with M&Ms for a little treat.
I used the same Top Note shape but this time I folded the Top Note along the short end (so it is taller than it is wide). I measured the width and cut a piece of DSP 3" x 9" from my leftovers and then basically followed the same directions as above, but I filled my pouch with a small cell bag with chocolate instead of an invitation. So you can see the sizes a bit better, here is a picture of both pouches side by side:

I needed a birthday card for my old college roommate. Not that she's old, just that we aren't roommates any longer! LOL. I wanted something special for her and decided to copy a layout from my upcoming Christmas card class. I wish you could see this one in person, because the picture truly doesn't do it justice. The flower image is totally sparkly from the use of Iridescent Ice embossing powder. The fold over flap of the Razzleberry Lemonade designer flap is also sparkly from the same technique.
I had so much fun creating this card, that I just had to make another one. This one is for a gift certificate from an aunt to her niece for one of my stamp classes. Isn't she an awesome aunt?! Would you like to receive a gift certificate in the mail that looked like this? I know I would.
For this card, I used the same layout and stamp sets (as I'm sure you have figured out), but I changed the colors and for this one I did not use the Iridescent Ice embossing powder. I left the images alone to "shine" on their own.
I love to fold or tear my designer papers so that I can see both sides of the design on the same card. Too often I love both sides of the paper and it just kills me to only use one side. Is anyone else like that?
I'll be posting more information later this week on my new Christmas card class (come join me in beautiful Loveland, Colorado), and this class will also be available as a Class by Email for those of you who cannot join us in person.

" I just finished making the box. The day you sent me the class, I printed off the directions up to page 10, thinking that I would go back to the directions as I made the box and follow your pictures and written directions. BUT!! I forgot to look back!!! and tried to make the box....When it wouldn’t fit together nicely, I went back to the original directions and picked up at page 11 and it worked!!"
So, Kari, your directions are wonderful!!!! - Leslie S
